Last ATAK Pictures ANNOUNCE PRODUCTION OF FIRST FEATURE FILM.
Shooting in February 2005 and expected for summer release.
London, UK. - June 28, 2004 - Last ATAK Pictures today announced that work has started on their first feature film production. Entitled 'The Musicals' it tells the story of the Musicals family who are treated as outcasts because they communicate through song and how the love of one man, defying society for the eldest daughter Rosa could bring about change in the community.
The comedy musical is being written by award-winning director Andrew Davidson (Autumn Heart, Quondam) with music and lyrics by Steven Coltart. The film has been a long time ambition of Andrew Davidson, having developed the basis of the story in 2002 though it was not until his collaboration with Steven Coltart on the award-winning film Autumn Heart that he found someone capable of bringing the musical elements to life.
'This film has been sitting in the back of my mind for a long time now,' says the writer/director, 'and Steve didn't have to think twice about the film, so it was settled.'
The Musicals started life as another short film, but quickly developed into something much larger, Davidson explains, 'The issues we are dealing with in the film are complex and I wanted to make more of the love story, and to do them over twenty or thirty minutes seemed to cheapen them. I talked it over with those involved and everyone was happy to make a feature film, so I went to town embellishing the story.'
The production will start casting the central roles soon and plan to record the musical numbers before the end of the year.
The film is being producer by Kathryn Waters, with Andrew Davidson acting as Executive Producer.
