After the phenomenal success of the Student Screen showing of The Goonies on Saturday 1st March and due to popular demand the film will be shown again on Saturday 8th March alongside the scheduled screening of Kevin Smith's 'Clerks'.
The first screening of The Goonies at the ODEON in Stoke-on-Trent saw the biggest turn out for the Student Screen so far. 150 people were there to watch the film which received a spontaneous round of applause both as it started and as the credits began to roll. Despite many people having seen the film countless times before it was enjoyed by all, with the laughter rolling through the auditorium. Considering the age of the film and the print everyone commented on how good the quality was.
Student Screen organizers Andrew Elkin and Andrew Davidson were extremely happy with the turnout, which despite the expectations even surprised them. 'We're really excited that people have embraced the night and what we'd planned,' said Andrew Davidson recently, 'The feedback that we've had from people we've met at the screenings has been very encouraging. What we're happy about is that something like The Goonies can pay the way for us to show stranger and less known films like Donnie Darko, which in itself did well.'
The Andrews are currently busy preparing a second season of films for Student Screen. 'We got some interesting suggestions from people,' says Davidson who like Elkin is keen not to let slip the films in question, 'and it was interesting to see how often the same three or four films would appear. If we've got the list how it currently is, it should be a nice mix. We had 21 films that we had to narrow down and we know that we can't please everyone. Well, except maybe ourselves!'
The confirmation for the second season is expected within the week.
The remaining films of this season are Clerks (Saturday 8th March) and Ghostbusters (Saturday 15th March). To suggest a film please send an email to:
